Last week’s post referred to a discussion from my college days about the plausibility of world peace. While utopian ideals might seem laughable given the current state of the world, navigating toward a more peaceful existence requires imaginative intention. In part, this means putting money and energy toward intellectual and compassionate strength, and away from military might and division. That’s why I’m excited to follow up with an aligned donation in support of the Peace Development Fund.
The Peace Development Fund (PDF) is a top-rated charity with a mission of building community-based organizations through grants, training, and other resources. Their focus is on grassroots groups who aim to become financially self-sustaining. Founded in 1981 with the belief that true democratic change takes place from the bottom up, PDF has helped over 2500 emerging and social justice-focused organizations. The Peace Development Fund looks at peace not as the absence of war, but “as the presence of equitable relationships among people, nations and the environment.” With this in mind, PDF helps fuel a movement by supporting others whose work resonates with their philosophy.
The Peace Development Fund was started by a small group of donor activists 40 years ago, and they have nourished and supported small and growing groups of activists ever since. This brings to mind a famous quote:

If more people realized the power they possess — even in small groups — the idea of a strong *and* peace-filled future would take hold.
